The Bosphorus runs north–south between two continents, which means at sunset the light doesn’t just fade — it moves. The sun drops behind the European hills on your left, and for about forty minutes the Asian shore on your right catches the last gold while Europe falls into silhouette. From a boat in the middle of the strait, you are in the only place in Istanbul where you can see both sides change at once.
We time the cruise for this window. Boarding is around 6 PM (Seasonal Change +-2-3 Hours) — later in summer, earlier in winter — always adjusted to the actual sunset time. You sail north along the European shore first, passing Dolmabahçe Palace while its white marble turns pink, under the first Bosphorus Bridge just as the cars above you start switching on their headlights. By the time you reach Rumeli Fortress and the villages of Bebek and Arnavutköy, the restaurant lights along the waterfront are coming on, reflecting in black water.
Then the yacht turns and returns along the Asian shore during blue hour: Beylerbeyi Palace lit from below, the neo-gothic silhouette of Kuleli Military High School, Küçüksu Pavilion in its small cove. The cruise finishes at Maiden’s Tower sitting alone in the middle of the strait with its lighthouse beam turning — this is the photograph almost everyone takes home.
Two hours on the water on a shared boat (maximum 25 passengers, but the deck is wide and it rarely feels crowded). Comfortable seating inside and outside. Soft drinks and Turkish canapés served during the sail. An English-speaking guide onboard to explain what you are seeing and answer questions. The air on the Bosphorus usually runs 2–3°C cooler than the city — a light jacket is a good idea even in summer evenings.
Who this cruise is for: people who want the Istanbul postcard at its most photographed moment, without committing to a long dinner programme. Couples on first visits, solo travellers, families with older children, anyone who wants one memorable Istanbul experience to talk about afterwards. If you want a full evening with buffet dinner and a Turkish Night show, look at the Bosphorus Dinner Cruise (from €30). If you want the yacht entirely for your own group, see the Private Bosphorus Sunset Cruise (from €280 for the whole boat).
Photography notes: bring your phone fully charged. The strongest shots are the first Bosphorus Bridge from underneath at the exact transition between daylight and night lighting, Ortaköy Mosque in silhouette against the bridge, and Maiden’s Tower during blue hour on the return leg. A wide-angle lens helps if you carry a real camera.
As the yacht sails along the shores of the European continent, our guide will tell you the stories of historical buildings. The historical places you will see on the European shore of the Bosphorus are as follows:

Bosphorus Sunset Cruise is a Bosphorus sunset cruise with a maximum of 25 people. It starts in the evening between 6 pm and lasts for 2 hours. The most important feature of the Bosphorus sunset, which is one of the most preferred tours of recent times, is to watch the magnificent view of the Bosphorus at sunset and take photos for social media platforms.
Every guest on our Bosphorus Sunset Cruise gets complimentary access to our 12-language audio guide — the only one of its kind on the Bosphorus. No app download required. Scan the QR code onboard or visit guide.bosphorussunset.com from your phone browser.
Available languages: English, Turkish, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean.
GPS-triggered narration plays automatically as the yacht passes each of 32 Bosphorus landmarks (Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy Mosque, Rumeli Fortress, Maiden’s Tower, Beylerbeyi Palace and more). Works offline once loaded, in any browser, no registration, no ads. This is included free with your ticket — no upsell.
Every Bosphorus Sunset Cruise also includes a live English-speaking guide onboard — a real person, not just the app. Ask questions, hear stories you won’t find on Wikipedia, get insider recommendations for the rest of your Istanbul stay. The live guide complements our free multilingual audio guide: use the audio guide (in your native language) for narration at each landmark, and the live guide for anything you want to ask in English.
No extra charge — this is included in the standard ticket price.

I deliberately travel alone to recharge, and I seek out experiences that allow for that. This cruise was perfect. I found a spot at the stern, away from the main group, and just watched the world go by. The narrated history was informative but not intrusive. The moment the city lights began to reflect on the water as we passed under the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge was a silent, personal spectacle. It’s a tour that respects your space, whether you’re alone or in a group. For solo travelers, it’s a gem.

Thomas, finding a spot at the stern, away from everyone, to recharge — that is exactly the kind of solo sanctuary our cruise offers. We are glad it was the perfect recharge! — Bosphorus Sunset Team

A sublime romantic interlude. The beauty of the Bosphorus at sunset is almost overwhelming. Sharing that beauty, pointing out the Ortaköy Mosque or the grand Dolmabahçe Palace to each other, created a shared wonder that’s the essence of a romantic trip.

She surprised her partner with this cruise, and it was a total win. She said the setting was incredibly romantic, and the staff were discreet yet attentive. Seeing the Dolmabahçe Palace glowing in the last rays of sun was the perfect backdrop. “A+ for a date night,” she texted us later.
